Why Cups/Mugs?
Cups and mugs have always been my favorite ceramics to make. Functional artwork is appealing to me because you can show it off and have it be useful! With cups and mugs I enjoy how ritualistic they can be. I know for myself, I have my favorite coffee cup that I use every morning and a prefered cup for wine or a cocktail. As I hold my cups I have a sense of calm. Yes, even drinking coffee.
The Design
The Artist Proof of this cup was designed for my best friend who loves hippos and peonies. I was so enamored with how it all came out after it was fired I decided to add this design to my editions.
After ceramics, printmaking is my favorite art form. All of my surface images are screen printed by hand or paper transfer on to my ceramics and hand colored.
The glaze on this cup is inspired by the colors of a june bug body.
