Syncopation is the disruption of a normal rhythmic pattern, creating a sense of tension or surprise. It is achieved by bringing a variety of rhythms together. This abstract piece contains energetic (rhythmic) layers of ink, oil pastels, and found paper. I am interested in using syncopation metaphorically to explore disruption--how it generates a third space, brimming with possibilities.
