“A soul cake, a soul cake… pray missus a soul cake.”
These are traditional soul cakes created for your gluten free Samhain celebration. They come in packs of three or a baker’s dozen for the larger celebrations. They do not have the cross imprint but instead have the jack o’latern pattern pressed on them to give them more of a authentic feel. These are European in design and are meant for All Hallows Day and All Souls Eve (Nov1 and Nov 2nd). These are the original treat and a precursor to the treat in trick or treating. This tradition of leaving soul cakes out for wandering souls and on graves predates Christianity and these cookies are spicy and a cross between a digestive and a shortbread.
