Why Cups/Mugs?

Cups and mugs have always been my favorite ceramics to make. Functional artwork is appealing to me because you can show it off and have it be useful! With cups and mugs I enjoy how ritualistic they can be. I know for myself, I have my favorite coffee cup that I use every morning and a prefered cup for wine or a cocktail. As I hold my cups I have a sense of calm. Yes, even drinking coffee.

The Design

I really dinosaurs, flowers and saying fuck. It's that simple. The combination of all three works quite nicely. With the recent state of the US, I have found myself saying "Fuck no", more and more frequently.

After ceramics, printmaking is my favorite art form. All of my surface images are screen printed by hand or paper transfer on to my ceramics and hand colored.

The rich copper, deep greens and black glaze on this cup is how I imagine how the ground would look if it had absorbed space shimmer. I realize of course scientifically that's not a thing :)

Good to Know:

Food safe, top rack dishwasher safe, you could microwave it but I don't recommend it (because thermal shock is deadly to functional ceramics)
