Getting your product details right is one of the most important things you can do to help shoppers find your products. Here’s everything you need to know about filling out each field for the best results.

The Most Important Fields

Product Name

Why it matters: Your product name is the first thing shoppers and search engines see. A clear, descriptive name helps your product show up in search results both on Little Blue Market and on Google.

Best practices:

  • Be specific and descriptive. Include what the product is, key material or style, and who it’s for
  • Avoid vague names like “Blue Shirt” and instead try “Women’s Organic Cotton Navy Crewneck T-Shirt”
  • Include words shoppers would actually search for
  • Keep it under 70 characters so it doesn’t get cut off in search results

Example:

  • Do not use: "Candle”
  • Instead, use: “Lavender + Eucalyptus Soy Candle — Hand-Poured, 8oz”

Description

Why it matters: A great description helps shoppers make a purchasing decision and helps search engines understand what your product is. Thin or missing descriptions hurt your visibility.

Best practices:

  • Write at least 100–150 words
  • Include the most important details in the first two sentences: material, size, use, who it’s for
  • Use natural language that shoppers would search for, think about what questions a customer might have
  • Include care instructions, dimensions, and materials where relevant
  • Mention your values and if it’s handmade, women-owned, sustainable, or BIPOC-owned say so! This resonates deeply with Little Blue Market shoppers
  • Avoid keyword stuffing: write for humans first, search engines second

What to include:

  • What is it?
  • What is it made of?
  • Who is it for?
  • How is it used?
  • What makes it special or unique?
  • Dimensions or sizing where relevant

Category

Why it matters: Category maps directly to the Product Type field in Shopify and helps shoppers filter and find products in the right sections of the marketplace.

Best practices:

  • Select the most accurate category for your product. Don’t choose a broad category when a specific one applies
  • You can select multiple categories if your product genuinely fits in more than one
  • Choose the most specific category available rather than a broad one

Examples:

  • A hand-painted coffee mug → select Coffee Mugs rather than just Home & Living
  • A baby onesie → select Baby Onesie or Baby Clothing rather than just Clothing

Tags

Why it matters: Tags are used to automatically add your products to relevant collections on Little Blue Market and improve searchability. Think of tags as keywords that connect your product to what shoppers are searching for.

Best practices:

  • Use specific, descriptive tags. Think about what words shoppers would type into search
  • Include material tags: soy-candle, cotton, leather, ceramic
  • Include occasion tags: gift, holiday, birthday, wedding
  • Include style or aesthetic tags: boho, minimalist, cottagecore, modern
  • Include value-based tags that resonate with LBM shoppers: handmade, small-batch, sustainable, woman-owned
  • Use hyphens between words rather than spaces: hand-poured not hand poured
  • Add 8–15 tags per product for best results

Examples of good tags for a hand-poured soy candle:
soy-candle, hand-poured, lavender, eucalyptus, home-fragrance, gift, clean-burning, small-batch, woman-owned, self-care

Images

Why it matters: Great product photography is one of the single biggest factors in whether a shopper buys. On a marketplace like Little Blue Market where shoppers can’t touch or try your product, images do all the selling.

Best practices:

  • Upload at least 3 images per product
  • Use a clean, well-lit main image on a white or neutral background for consistency
  • Include lifestyle photos showing the product in use
  • Show multiple angles and any important details up close
  • Use square images (1:1 ratio) or portrait at minimum 800x800px for best display
  • Avoid heavy filters or text overlays on your main image

Inventory

Why it matters: Accurate inventory prevents overselling and keeps your store trustworthy.

Best practices:

  • Always enter an accurate quantity
  • Make sure Track Quantity is checked because without this your inventory won’t sync correctly
  • Leave Continue selling when out of stock unchecked unless you make products to order
  • Add a SKU if you have one

Tax Status

  • Ensure "Charge tax on this product" is checked

Product Description & Categorization FAQs

My product isn’t showing up in search, what should I check?

First confirm your product status is set to Active. Then check that you’ve selected at least one Category and added relevant Tags. Products with missing descriptions or no tags are harder for the search engine to surface.

How many tags should I add?

Aim for 8–15 tags per product. Focus on specific, relevant keywords and think quality over quantity. Avoid adding tags that don’t genuinely describe your product.

Can I edit my product after it’s been approved?

Yes, go to Manage Products in your vendor dashboard to edit any product details at any time. If you’re connected via Shopify, changes to titles, descriptions, and prices should be made in your Shopify store so they sync correctly.

What’s the difference between Category and Collections?

Category is a broad classification that helps with filtering and search. Collections are the specific browsable sections of Little Blue Market where your product will appear when shoppers click Shop. Both matter and fill in both if you can see them.

I don’t see some of the fields mentioned here, is that normal?

Yes — which fields you see depends on how your account is set up. If you’re missing fields you think would help your product visibility, reach out to us at  market@littlebluecartcom and we can help assign collections or additional settings on our end.

My Shopify product sync overwrote my tags. What happened?

If you’re connected via Shopify Vendor Konnect, tags sync from your Shopify store. Add your LBM-specific tags directly in your Shopify store so they carry over on sync.

Additional Fields that May Be Visible Depending on Your Setup

Collections (Dropdown)

Collections are the specific browsable sections of Little Blue Market where your product will appear. This is different from Category. Collections are what shoppers browse when they click Shop on the marketplace.

How it works:
Collections are hierarchical so selecting a specific collection automatically adds your product to broader parent categories too. The more specific you are, the more places your product will appear.

Example:
Selecting Adult Apparel automatically adds your product to Apparel & Accessories and Clothing and Apparel as well.

Best practices:

  • Always select the most specific collection that applies
  • You can select multiple collections if your product fits in more than one
  • Think about where a shopper would look for your product when browsing

More Info (Description)

Use this field for additional product details that don’t fit in the main description like care instructions, shipping notes, sizing details, or customization options.

Search Product Boosts

Enter additional keywords and search terms that shoppers might use to find your product that aren’t already in your title or description. Think synonyms and alternate ways to describe what you sell.

Example for a tote bag: reusable bag, grocery bag, market bag, canvas bag, eco bag

Related Products Settings

Leave this set to Ahead and it automatically shows relevant product recommendations to shoppers on your product page. Only change it to Only Manual if you have a specific reason to control which products appear as recommendations.
