Quilt inspired by a snorkeling adventure off the Big Island of Hawai?i. Staying a far distance away, the turtle (honu) decided to keep an eye on me while I explored the beauty of the ocean depth. The water was filled with life, in response, there is an added layer of quilted sea life throughout the quilt, including butterfly fish and sea urchins. These elements are integrated subtly into the composition, inviting closer viewing. The quilt is pieced together using hand died batiks from Indonesia and hand marbled fabric from Washington state. Constructed with 100% cotton fabric, thread and a first layer of batting. An extra layer of wool batting added to the turtles for add extra dimension. An original top pattern and quilted designs.
